When You’re Tired of Being Strong
Share
There are seasons when being strong becomes exhausting.
You keep showing up. You keep taking care of what needs to be done. You answer the calls, handle the responsibilities, encourage everyone else, and somehow find enough strength to make it through another day.
From the outside, you may even look like you're doing just fine.
But inside, you’re tired.
Not necessarily the kind of tired that sleep can fix.
It’s the kind of tired that comes from carrying too much for too long.
Sometimes we become so accustomed to being the strong one that we forget we are allowed to need support too.
We tell ourselves:
I’ll be okay.
I just need to keep going.
Other people are depending on me.
I don’t have time to fall apart.
And so we keep pushing.
But strength was never meant to mean carrying everything alone.
Sometimes strength looks like admitting that you’re tired.
Sometimes it looks like resting without feeling guilty.
Sometimes it looks like saying, I need help.
Sometimes it looks like allowing someone else to be strong for you.
And sometimes strength looks like sitting quietly before God and admitting:
Lord, I don’t have much left today.
There is something deeply comforting about knowing that God never asked us to pretend we are strong enough for everything.
In fact, Scripture reminds us of the opposite.
Matthew 11:28 reminds us:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Notice the invitation.
Come.
Not when you have everything figured out.
Not when you've regained your strength.
Not when you've stopped crying, worrying, grieving, or questioning.
Come weary.
Come burdened.
Come exactly as you are.
There will be seasons when your faith feels strong and courageous.
And there may be seasons when your faith sounds more like a whispered prayer:
God, please carry me through today.
That prayer is enough.
Faith isn't always loud.
Sometimes faith is simply choosing to believe that God is still with you when you don't have the strength to understand what He's doing.
You don't have to be strong every moment to be strong.
You are allowed to have days when you need rest.
You are allowed to admit when something hurts.
You are allowed to step away from things that are draining you.
You are allowed to stop carrying responsibilities that were never yours to carry.
You are allowed to receive the same grace you so freely give to everyone else.
And perhaps today you don't need another reminder to keep pushing.
Perhaps you need permission to put something down.
To breathe.
To pray.
To rest.
To trust that the world will continue turning even if you stop carrying everything for a little while.
God sees the strength it has taken for you to make it this far.
He also sees the parts of you that are tired.
You don't have to prove your strength to God.
You can bring Him the exhaustion.
The disappointment.
The questions.
The tears you haven't cried yet.
The responsibilities that feel too heavy.
The prayers you don't even know how to put into words.
And you can simply say:
Lord, I need You.
There is no weakness in that prayer.
There is surrender.
There is faith.
And sometimes, that is where real strength begins.
So if you're tired of being strong today, give yourself permission to rest.
You don't have to solve everything tonight.
You don't have to carry everyone.
You don't have to know what tomorrow will bring.
Take the next breath.
Say the next prayer.
Let God meet you right where you are.
You have carried enough for today.
Rest.
God is still holding you.
With gratitude,
